LYMPHEDEMA CARE

What is Lymphedema Care?

Lymphedema is a condition that occurs when swelling arises in parts of the body, such as the legs and arms, but can also affect alternative regions of the body due to an issue with the lymphatic system.

Lymphedema occurs when a surplus of fluid, proteins and toxins accumulate in parts of the body, not only in the legs and arms but the genital region, the neck and the abdomen. The lymphatic system usually removes these substances.

Cancer can have a detrimental impact on the lymphatic system. As a result, the cancerous tumour can prevent lymphatic fluid from draining completely. Radiation therapy for cancer, which involves the surgical resection of the lymph nodes, has the same effect.

Lymphedema care aims to minimise the amount of lymphatic fluid in body regions (arms and legs) through compression apparel.

What types of lymphedema care products are on offer?

Lymphedema care products are designed to reduce swelling in the limbs, particularly the arms, due to fluid build-up in the region. Lymphedema in the arms causes pain and swelling in the area. In addition, the swelling restricts movement in the arms and causes one to feel self-conscious about their bodily appearance.

  • Compression arm sleeves: Compression arm sleeves are medical apparel that compresses and supports muscles in the arm, especially during physical activity. Compression arm sleeves are designed to apply pressure to the region, aiding in excess lymphatic fluid drainage.
The unique design of these compression arm sleeves consists of the following:
    • A full-length sleeve with a shapely upper end to provide lymphatic relief.
    • The edging of the sleeve is comprised of a silicone coating (A silicone grip top).
    • A shapely section of the hand is needed to minimise swelling.
    • The soft, burled fabric of the arm sleeve makes it easy to remove.
    • Separate pieces of the sleeve are available.
    • The burled fabric of the sleeves is used to massage the area of the hand and enhance blood circulation.
    • The design incorporates gradient as a factor, which, as a result, facilitates the flow of lymph fluid toward the upper part of the limb. This results in the immediate drainage of fluid and facilitates the transport of fluid from the region.
    • In terms of bandaging, a short-stretch bandage is utilised to treat lymphedema. Careful measurements need to be taken, indicating each individual's specific lengths.
  • Leg compression apparel is also available. Kindly contact us for more information regarding the availability of these selected items.
